Our association was founded in 2006 and is based at Meniko village in Nicosia district in Cyprus. Since the day of its inauguration, we deal with various activities aiming at fulfilling the objectives and purpose for which it was founded

Our main activity is the learning of Cypriot traditional and Greek dancing and we have developed a strong presence within various events in Cyprus and abroad.

We keep several dance groups with children, teenagers and adults, with approximately a total of 320 people. We have dancers of all ages who have the opportunity to present Cypriot and Greek dances at regular intervals during our own organized events or at other events as requested

The biggest number of our association’s students learning to dance are under-aged and young people under 30 years of age.

Our professional dance group consists of several young people who can present dance performances with authentic Cypriot and Greek dances, as well as our own innovative creations and variations, based always on our tradition.

In the few years it has been active, our professional dance group performs at regular intervals all over unoccupied Cyprus and represents our island abroad (worldwide) with dancing performances and other events.

Our dance group took part and continues to take part in various festivals in and out of Cyprus and all around the world where it gets distinctions and awards all the time. It performed many times in Cyprus and abroad and rightly so both the children and the teenage and adult dance groups of the Music and Dance Club “VOURKA” are among the best dance groups of the country.

The objectives of our Group are:

  • The healthy activities of youth
  • The spread and preservation of our cultural heritage, both in dance and music but also in new creations based on tradition.
  • The promotion and learning of traditional dances and music on individual or group level
  • The spread of traditional dances and traditional music by all legal means.
  • The promotion of cultural, folklore and music & dance festivals throughout Cyprus and abroad.
  • The cooperation with bodies and organizations to develop and successfully conduct such events.
  • The organization of various events aiming at attracting people with the same interests and way of thinking as the association.

The contribution of all our members and of the Group Executives is on a volunteering base. The results of our work are innovative and present a unique picture for Cyprus standards. Experts (in Cyprus and abroad) on the issues we deal with, speak with flattering words for the quality of work of our Group.

OtherActivities

Dance School

Our Group has a Dance School namedLa Fiesta School of Dance where we teach all kinds of dances, aiming to develop and transmit the love for dance and tradition to children but also to adults. We have very low school fees accessible to all social classes. The results in the years the school has been active, having more than 200 members, are really impressive.

Our school has branches in Nicosia and at the villages of Korakou and Agios Epifanios in Nicosia district. Our experienced dance teachers deliver classes also to organized dance clubs at the villages of Agrokipia , Akaki and Mammari.

Newspaper Edition

Since December 2011, our Group owns a newspaper called “Dance for all” which is being published every 2 months. This is a printed and electronic version of a variety of educational material for all categories of the public.

General Activities

The Group organizes also many other activities of varying interest locally and outside Cyprus like lectures and seminars, exhibitions and discussions on various topics of general interest like cultural, social and health, etc.

Besides the above, we organize every year many activities for charity so that we can offer to various bodies who are in need. Some of our events (like excursions) last many days and in some of these we host other organized groups and bodies from Cyprus or abroad.

More details about our activities and actions, in addition to our webpage, are listed in our facebook account ″Vourka Meniko″.
